In Conversation with Katy Roberts, Head of Video, VICE

Katy Roberts, Head of Video at VICE AU/NZ will join Matthew Deaner in conversation in Melbourne.

Roberts oversees production of VICE Australia and New Zealand documentaries, which are distributed across the company's owned and operated channels. Her four year tenure with the company has lead her to produce work on a bizarre array of immersive stories across the globe (from professional eating in Nevada, to the billion dollar cockfighting industry in the Philippines). Locally, she produced the VICE series ‘Over-Represented’, exploring the Indigenous experience of imprisonment in Australia. In 2017, Katy supervised the production of two tentpole digital series for both Australia and New Zealand - ‘Australiana’ and ‘Zealandia’. Katy also plays an integral role in VICE’s recently launched TV channel - VICELAND, which launched in 2016.

Roberts will discuss the role of video at VICE Media; including how the global team work together, how things have evolved in the medium over the years in Australia, what content and strategies the company is focussed on locally in 2018, recent successes and collaborations and a look to the future.
